Privacy Policy

Cinévo ("we", "us", "our") is a movie and TV show tracking app developed by Bryce Kaddouri. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
1. Data we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your username, first name, last name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). This data is required to provide the service.
Usage data and analytics
With your consent, we collect anonymous analytics and session replay data via PostHog. This includes screen views, taps, and app interactions. Session replay masks all text and images by default. You can decline analytics during onboarding, and on iOS we respect the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Push notifications
When you enable notifications, we collect your device identifier (identifierForVendor on iOS, device ID on Android) and Firebase Cloud Messaging token. These are used solely to deliver push notifications about new episodes.
Feedback
When you submit feedback through the app, we collect the type (bug or feature), your description, and an optional annotated screenshot. This is sent to our backend and associated with your account.
Friends
Cinévo's social features let you add friends by username or QR code. Your friends list, friend requests, and title recommendations are stored on our servers. There is no public feed — all social interaction is private and friend-gated.
2. Third-party services
TMDB
Cinévo uses the TMDB API to provide movie and TV show metadata (titles, posters, overviews, cast, genres). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. TMDB's privacy policy is available atthemoviedb.org/privacy-policy.
JustWatch
Streaming availability data is provided by JustWatch. Cinévo does not share your personal data with JustWatch.
PostHog
Analytics and session replay are processed by PostHog, acting as our data processor. PostHog does not use your data for its own purposes.
Firebase Cloud Messaging
Push notifications are delivered via Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging service.
3. How we use your data
- Provide and maintain the app's core features (watchlist, episode tracking, notifications, friends)
- Authenticate your account
- Send push notifications about new episodes (when enabled)
- Improve the app through anonymous analytics (with your consent)
- Respond to your feedback and bug reports
4. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising purposes. Data is only shared with the service providers listed above (PostHog, Firebase) who act as processors on our behalf.
5. Data retention
Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. Analytics data is retained for up to 12 months. When you delete your account, your personal information is removed immediately. Anonymized, aggregated usage data that is no longer linked to you may be retained.
6. Your rights
You can:
- Access your account data through the app (Settings → Profile)
- Update your personal information at any time
- Delete your account and associated data (Settings → Profile → Delete Account)
- Decline analytics during onboarding or revoke consent in device settings
- Request data export or deletion by emailing us
7. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. API authentication uses bearer tokens with automatic refresh. We follow standard security practices to protect your data.
8. Children's privacy
Cinévo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
